Back to the topic in hand. DD was happy with maths. Nothing she couldn’t handle.

I just spoke to dd. she said it was 'okay-ish' but a bit harder than she'd expected. Maths has never really been her thing but she ahs worked so hard at it. I hope she isn't too disappointed

DC back from Maths - paper was as expected, some easy bits (not many), mostly ok bits and some hard bits ... DC just glad to get one Maths paper out of the way. Roll on Eng Lit tommorrow  as they say 'onwards and upwards' :)

Personally I would do away with GCSEs altogether - they perform no useful purpose now there is no jump-off point at 16 and cause huge amounts of stress as well as being some kind of protracted endurance test in May-June. But yes, if something were needed, a single school-leaving exam would be far better than what happens now. It would also do away with the ridiculously early specialisation our system foists on 13 year olds.

In the past when one Maths paper was horrid the other was slightly easier. I think there are 3 now? Hopefully she will find the other(s) more manageable. :)

DD found it fairly easy she said finished with 25 minutes to spare, she is v. Good at it and an alevel choice. She did have a(nother) blond moment and thought she had 5 minutes left when in fact it was 1hr5 :-)

Maths is DDs best subject - she initially came out very happy with it, but has now remembered 2 silly mistakes (one being a typically dyslexic reversal of digits) and is now in floods of tears because this is the subject she is supposed to be best at and now she has failed! She does tend towards the belief that you either get 100% or nothing! She has been crying for over an hour now and nothing I say will console her.

I think she is also worrying about English Lit tomorrow, which is the hardest subject for her. She is a bit worried because they don't tend to start the exams spot on 9am, she has 50% extra time and rest breaks, and she thinks she will still be sitting there when the afternoon exams begin!

oh bless!

DD said Maths was good but she is going to be doing Maths A level so I would hope so.
Eng Lit tomorrow is not going to be the same - we have made it through 4 out of 6 episodes of P&P with Colin Firth but she still loathes it.

DS said maths was ok .

He is worrying about Eng Lit tomorrow - although at the moment he is playing 'Fortnite' with his friends!!

I'll give him a bit longer and then get him back to his revision!

If only there was a GCSE in 'Fortnite'. My DS would be guaranteed a grade 9 next year! :(

DS was also very happy with maths today. It was a lot easier than he expected. Eng Lit and Japanese tomorrow then a breather. Phew!
