Re: Latin GCSE
Not necessary for law at all.
Re: Latin GCSE
DD2 did it for GCSE last summer and adores Latin. She says the level of work wasn't any greater than any other subject - if you do lots of translations then you learn the vocab and it lessens the need for rote learning. She loves it so much and it's her "fun" "A" Level subject - it's not that she doesn't like the others of Maths, Physics and Chemistry but she just finds Latin the "relaxer".

Re: Latin GCSE
This has been an informative thread, so thanks for starting it.
DD Y8 currently does Latin and Spanish, they need to decide on two languages for Y9 next week. The school teaches Latin, Spanish and French. They must do one at GCSE, whichever they drop in Y9 cannot be picked up again in Y10. Funding and lack of time in the school day seems to dictate three languages not possible, ok for her but I guess frustrating for others.

Re: Latin GCSE
Thank you for all replies. DD is still undecided but seems (today at least) to be plumping for RS over Latin. The potential rote learning if struggling and much increased vocab for Latin has posed the question of retaining interest.
Re: Latin GCSE
Thank you to KB and fairyelephant for your information.
We found the schools parents / GCSE options evening very helpful, or rather our daughter did. Despite doing very well at Latin it would mean dropping History or RS. She loves and enjoys these two subjects so has decided to drop Latin.
Luckily the school is hosting a careers talk from a Law firm next week, so she has already drawn up a list of questions.
Kind regards
