Tubby, would like to help but I don't understand your opening question. Which year is he in at school at the moment? Why doesn't he want to do physics if he's interested in Chem Eng and Medicine? How come he is doing maths but now has the option to study maths? Why is he thinking of swapping PE to physics at this point in time?
If he is in year 12 already and I were him I'd dump the PE and do a 4th AS that is well regarded. If he's bright he shouldn't have a problem with 4AS's. Did he get high grades in maths and science at GCSE? Can't he make up for the PE by playing lots of sport and reading some books on sports science if it's something he loves?
What's the lowest offer around for Chem Eng? Does he need to think of something else with lower offers?
