Hi,

please can you help..

my Son who lives more than 3miles from his nearest grammar, has always been supplied with a kent bus pass, free. However, I understand that he does not qualify any more since
reaching the age of 16 :!: as he is still a child, attending the same school, and not in gainful employment, I am not sure what has changed his eligability :?:
please can anyone help me? thank you :D

Hi cindy, unfortunately that is the case. There is a thread on this on the Kent section. However your DS might be entitled to the Kent freedom pass which allows free unlimited use of buses in Kent but it does cost £500 ( I think) for over 16 year olds.

Hi yes MY SON HAS HAD FREE TRAVEL TO school until now, £520 for my son going into sixth form and £100 for my daughter starting in year seven. I live over three miles away but can't have free travel because I chose to send her to grammar rather than the comp, which is apparently my nearest school, even though it is right next door to the grammar she is going to. Have tried to appeal but had no luck. ABSOLUTELY REDICULOUS!!!!

Have you llooked at Megarider tickets? When my son went to college this worked out better value than the bus pass they suggested as it was valid for buses at all times, not just school times

Thanks. Looks a good option for certain areas but don't think it runs in Bucks. Public buses don't run to the schools (my ones anyway), so it's either drive to the school gates (traffic nightmare) or cough up for the school buses! Don't get me going on the state of the buses either ....

I feel your pain Caryn, and am in a very similar position, except that my year 12 is cheaper than your year 13 - others all the same :(
