Re: Uni fees - student loan costs
Good luck to your DD for tomorrow LFH! I'm with you, fed up with it all and I have two more sons to go. That's an awful lot of wine I will be drinking in the future.

Thanks Fran - yes we need a lot of wine to get through. I hope I don't have too much and fail to get up in the morning

Interesting article....

Not that I'm like a dog with a bone, and never give up trying to convince people this is a bad idea

This from an article in the guardian
http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/201 ... -drop-ucas" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Much smaller drop than 10% in the number of applications to university.
The article is here but it was written in JanuaryThe number of 18-year-olds in the population has declined by 11,000 this year, to 772,000, according to the Office for National Statistics, a fall of 1.4%.

State 'gains 10 times what it pays for students'

Interesting and thought provoking article. Particularly if you couple it with the fact that it is anticipated that the new fees regime will actually (directly) cost the country more in the long run. Seems like irreversible damage to me!

Re: Uni fees - student loan costs
Especially when ass the article says it costs the state £18K for an average degree.
Why then are fees standing at £27K - I guess this it to make up for all those that won't/can't pay

What about longer degrees e.g. those with a year in industry or abroad?
