KCL and columbia joint law degree any experience?

Ok this is probably a long shot, but this forum is always worth a try! Has anyone experience of this programme, my DD wants to study law and she wanted to go to columbia in New York (although i think this choice is based on too much watching Friends, How i met your mother and now Two broke girls). However it transpires that law in the usa is a prost grad degree and is 3 or 4 years and we probably would'nt get any help with the fees which are £40+k per year, so much as I love her this is probably out of the question, so she is now thinking to go in the UK but i did come across this course:

and i couldn't find much detail about the financial implications, but looks good as after 4 years u have a US and and english law degree.

We are going to an american university fair at the end of the month and will try to ask columbia about it and also i could obviously ask KCL, but just wondered if anyone had any experience of this

for anyone that is interested i have some updates re this post

we went to the american university open day in london which was really interesting and i have to say opened my eyes to the oppertunity of study in america, however as dd has decided now she wants to do law as an undergraduate we are no looking at this so much. the KCL course is v competitive you apply for columbia after your first year on the KCl law degree and only 2 people are chosen, so it's quite a long shot however it is a very good deal because half of the US fees are paid for by KCL (over 25K per year, but you have to come up with the other 25K !! ) but you do end up with joint uk/us law degree which is apparently v useful for getting a job.

The other interesting thing i didn't know is that a lot of private US universities offer means tested grants for students irrespective where thay come from in the world and this geneally means that if you household income is less than 35K US dollars you could get completly free education so it would actually be cheeper than going to a Uk uni, which maybe interesting to people the organisation that arrnaged the event and seems to be the point of reference for applying is the fullbright trust

Hello Tree. Thanks for posting the link. I've no experience of the KCL course but it looks fabulous and I wish I'd seen it earlier. Even if your DD didn't get onto the Columbia programme the law course at Kings is sure to be good so not too much to lose. If she hasn't written off the US idea, and if she is in Yr12, can I recommend that you check out the Sutton Trust US Summer School programme. It is open now for 2013 applications. It is run in conjunction with the excellent Fulbright organisation and includes tuition advice for the ACT & SAT II exams by CATES. Law in the US is post grad and very expensive.

She has applied for the sutton trust summer school programme in the USA for this summer however she now wants to go to oxford so has also applied for the uniq summer school there, my worry is that her parental income and our nice postcode may scupper these although she does go to a state comp. She is still thinking about Kings especially as they seem to have come into alot of money and are offering loads of full scholarships for law students.

it's all fun though.
