Engineering books for Y12 DS
Hi. DS is currently in Year 12 and is looking to apply to study Engineering at university next year. He loves maths and physics but doesn’t yet know which type of engineering he would be most interested in so will probably apply for General Engineering degrees where you can specialise after the first year. His school have suggested wider reading for Personal Statements/interviews. Do any of you have any book recommendations from DCs who have gone down this route already? Neither DH nor I have any experience or knowledge of engineering so are completely clueless. Any help would be much appreciated.

Here’s one

When at uni, we had to read a similar one. I think it was ‘The new science of strong materials or why we don’t fall through the floor’ and one of our exam questions was based on it. Small paperbook and an easy read.
I’ll have a look.
(For chem eng, I’d recommend the website whynotchemeng btw)

Thanks, Tinkers! He’s probably not going down the chem eng route (not doing chemistry).
Re: Engineering books for Y12 DS
The ones I’ve mentioned should be good then.

This one also looks interesting and I’ve just ordered another one called Liquid by the same author, which would possibly be of less interest to your DS but might be a good Christmas present for my DH.
