My Son studying Year 5 in Newham council and he is preparing for the 11+ exam. We have to move to Redbridge council to apply for the 11 plus exam. we are planning to shift in January 2011.

I heard from one of my friends, if i move recently then we are not eligible to offer the school . Say to appear in the Exam in December'2011, we moved to that area January'2011. Is that true. If my understanding is correct, when we apply for the exam we should be in that catchment area and it would be sufficient.

anybody experienced/heard like this before.

Many Thanks

I have moved your post into Essex - Redbridge.

There is a national cut-off day for applications to secondary schools of 29th October 2010 for Sep 2011 entry. I think you will find that an application received in January would not be processed in time in most areas for it to be considered along with the rest for allocation of a place in March.

If yuo are taking the exam in December 2011 then the deadline to be in Redbridge is around September 2011. So January 2011 is fine.

We were told similar things and they are untrue.
