How many registered applicants taking the test so far?

By the time I registered recently, the number stood in the late 2030s.

Is this the total number of dear children taking the combined boys & girl's 11+?

Wow! That must be some sort of record. I haven't registered yet, going to this week.
I think usually 1000 children compete for 120 places at each school.
Redbridge is cut-throat, each child is seen as someone who might steal your beloved child's place, so no-one helps each other  My ds's cousin is taking it, yet his father will not tell us anything, although we have helped him. He said that otherwise it would make it harder for his ds to get in.
Parents in Redbridge are desperate.

Hello all,

When I registered last week online the number was around 2220 I think (the unique ID number). I had a concern though, how do we know that the registration has been accepted by the Redbridge council? All I got after submitting the registration form was this unique number.

Any thoughts?

Tabs.

Hello Tabs,
I wrote out a huge reply, but lost it when I tried to preview it  , so I'll give a short one.

In a past forum, someone got a registered Number but put the current year instead of the birth year, & Lbr didn't bother to inform them. Luckily they sent an email asking whether the application was successful. They got a reply before the deadline saying in time so they could submit a new one!

This worried me so much (as we can't check); that I panicked & sent off lots of emails, stating that I got a registered number (so registration was a success), & asking whether the application was completed correctly so that my dc's can take the 11+ this September?

I got standard emails answering a different question. They say that if you got a reg. number your registration has been successful, & if we need any more info. We will contact you.

This got me in a right tizzy, but now I have calmed down & que sera...

Don't worry Tabs, ALL of us are in the same boat - it is the fear of the unknown. (I just wish there was a better system, but as there isn't we might as well blow against the wind  ).

Worry only about what you can change/affect e.g. Focussing on dc's skills.

As they say FEAR = False experiences appearing real.

Imagine the same event happening to different people e.g. Walking along a jungle pathway & a huge snake falling from a tree in front.

Many people would be paralysed with fear, however someone who worships snakes might smile at his good luck. See the same experience, but different ways of reacting.

Anyway, if anyone has any ideas, please share.

Hello Baffled I hope that things are going well :D

I have made a fair amount of use of those kind & courageous sharers in this website forum, with their extensive experiences. I believe in "goodness" & altruism wins in the end, so helping others helps myself I.e. one can create a spiral of goodness or harm - the choice is ours.

Imagine if all the sharers kept the tips to themselves, what would be our situation e.g. Competitive "fair fight" playing field?

I think the petty & mean-spirited, who have purely selfish parasitic backward & ignorant mentalities drag whole families, communities, nations & the world down to their lowest common denominator :( . Do they contribute anything positive to wider society & make it a better place to live?

There is a fair probability that our dc's might not be in the magic 120, but it is better to have played the game & come out with a healthy heart, knowing one strove for excellence in all facets of life.

I cannot comprehend the mind of someone who has "nothing to lose" & has done the exam, whilst not sharing, except arrogant ego.

Of course it is a race, & we will fight "tooth & nail" for those Golden Tickets BUT the choice is an honest & honourable one or not? Will those whose parents behave similarly & contribute positivity? A lottery winner keeps the same attitudes just on a bigger scale. I hope the hard-working & caring sharing people win this particular battle.

This forum, like the Internet ensures that knowledge is not the inheritance of jealous self aggrandising priests, sole dispensers of all knowledge, given to favoured "in group" cliques. It balances the "playing field" so that everyone has a chance to fight for a place based on merit alone.

This forum is cathartic for me to vent my worries & put my dislike of negative attitudes, by thinking & doing the opposite I.e. positive.
