CEM marks- Two Grammar schools

Post by heck01 »

Can someone, please let me know who calculates the eleven plus standardized score? Is it the CEM or is it CEM to share the raw marks with the grammar schools and grammar schools calculate the standarisded score and select the child?

My child applied for two grammar schools and both are CEM based entrance exam and we were told to attend the exam in one test centre only. The school advised that the result will be shared with another grammar school that we applied. Would that mean CEM directly shares results with both grammar schools or the school where the child sat for the exam will calculate the score and then share the score with another grammar school?

Thanks

CEM will mark and standardised the results. Depending on if the schools standardise by cohort or consortium you will receive one or more standardised scores.

Thanks. So CEM directly shares the results with both the schools? or whether School A(Where the child sat for the entrance exam) applies cohort and shares the standardized score with School B?

Please note both schools are from different councils but follow the CEM pattern.

Can parents request a raw score from the CEM?

CEM mark and standardised the scores in relation to the school requirements. This would be done either as one total unified cohort or with each school as a separate cohort. These results would be furnished to each school who are responsible for passing the results to the parents. It is up to the school to decide the level of information they provide to the parents.

I don’t believe that CEM have provided raw scores and have raised issues about raw marks/standardisation and commercial confidentiality in the past. However, they may have provided some additional information to Subject Access Requests.

Does anyone know how the exam is marked? Does a child have to pass all areas or can a low mark in one section, e.g. comprehension, be pulled up by high marks in other sections?

It may depend on the area, some places weight some sections more than another, or may require a pass in each (for example Kent, which isn't CEM though). If you say which area, people may be able to advise (or it will be on the school/local authority websites).

Based on the below information from https://ico.org.uk/your-data-matters/of ... formation/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is this applicable for 11+ exam result as well?

"Can I find out more about my exam results?
The GDPR gives you the right to see information held about you. This means you can request information about you and your exam performance, including:

your mark;
comments written by the examiner; and
minutes of any examination appeals panels.

But it does not give you the right to copies of your answers to exam questions."

As I said above Subject Access Requests have provided further information. The first link link in my above post includes the information you need to provide with your request. From memory they have provided A score for each section but with no indication of the number of questions in each section.

Sorry, the 1st link you have shared was the CEM link, should I send an email to CEM data protection team with SAR request by following the template available in https://ico.org.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;? - Thanks

I don’t have first hand experience of it so I would follow the CEM guidance. If you think the template is useful then make use of it.
