I'm surprised they never get to 'any other children' - does that mean they sometimes make fewer than 65 acadmic offers?

ETA: PAN = 200

Categories 1 and 2 - children are or have been looked after - say 5
Category 3 - closest 22
Category 4 - siblings - say 50
Category 5 - 10 music
Category 6 - 65 academic
Category 7 - children of staff - say 2

Total so far - 154

That would leave 46 places for category 8 - all other children (by distance)

In that scenario, there would need to be nearly 100 siblings for the allocation not to reach category 8.

I did not say they never get to Current Criterion 7 closest to the school.

I said they hadn't for a couple of years now: this year and last year.

In 2018 there were 16 places allocated in Criterion 7 as it was a low sibling year with 71.

The next year in 2019 there were 95 siblings and 11 staff children which took PAN to 215 and no places left for Criterion 7. DG

This year there are 84 siblings and 5 children of staff plus 20 from categories 1 and 2.

For secondary schools, the sibling criterion should be discarded. Places should be given mostly on distance basis to reduce address frauds and short term relocations.

Distance places increase address fraud and short term relocations.

They certainly do not reduce them.

It is the distance places that have required draconian measures at DAO, not the sibling places.

I wonder how many of the families who secured distance places this year from the HBS catchment area will still be in the same property this time next year.

We experienced the distance cheats heading back to their real homes after a few weeks of the first term in both of my dd's years at DAO before the school stepped in to prevent the cheating. DG

Once someone gets first distance place, they could and do go back and keep claiming sibling places. How many are at the address at which the first child was when getting the place?

Sibling policy encourages people to do whatever needed to get the first child into the school, as it then makes it easy for the remaining siblings.

Hurray Hurray!

The DAO waiting list has finally moved today.

Three places at least to 117 and possibly more.

At last.

So everyone else moves up the waiting list at least three ranks.

My DD was offered a place yesterday. She was 2nd on WL for distance. We had no hope, as the odds were very small. In 2019 and 2017, when they went over PAN, only the 1st person on the WL was offered a place.
