How does QE compare to Reading in the current year and last few years ?

I am also going thru the same. My DS got 240+ for QE and 125+ for Reading. I live in Reading and prefer to stay in Reading unless QE is far better than RBS. Appreciate your views.

As a data specialist, my view is that there is no significance difference. Moving for one of these is not worth the expense and stress as well as taking your child [and the family] away from local friends.

Stay in Reading. You do not need to go to QE boys to do well.

This strange concept that only QE and HBS hold the key to success needs to be reined in.

There are thousand of students doing really well in GCSEs, A levels and University without having gone to these two schools. DG

Absolutely. There's the same obsession with Oxbridge and the Russell Group universities, as if somehow any other destination is going to result in failure. Loss of face for parents, maybe, but I suppose that's the primary motivation for many.

Parents whose only measure of a school's worth is league tables and Oxbridge destinations.

Any perceived differences between the two will be marginal. It’s not like one is a seriously dodgy, low ranking school. Both are very good schools.

Sixth form is possibly a deciding factor here.

I’ve only briefly looked at the QE situation, I think your DSs QE score is decidedly borderline. (Others have more expertise for that area). In which case you are likely not get it at all, or may do for the waiting list, but could be waiting some time, possibly well into the summer.

Your DS can’t realistically commute to QE (seriously, please don’t even consider it), so your time frame for moving house will be very limited. Can you move at very short notice?

Your Reading score should be OK, certainly less borderline than QE. There’s no big difference in the schools, thy are both very good schools. Your DS will do well at either, but he won’t do well at QE if he is trying to travel there everyday from Reading.

Having a musical daughter who has been involved in several joint events with Reading boys I would say that the music department is pretty amazing if that is of interest. It is not all about exam grades.

whichever is closer. If you can move easily closer then witout a doubt QEB.MY children benefitted a lot from QE but if it involved more than 6 miles journey I will not go to QE.
