Also stanmore sounds a good option for SW Herts + HBS - this comes under LB of Harrow doesn't it? Does that then not allow entry into Latymer?

From Latymer admission arrangements for 2018 entry:
Over-subscription criteria
If the school is oversubscribed, priority for admission will be given to those applicants who reside in the Inner Area and
who are ranked within the top 650 candidates after taking both parts of the test, in the following order:
1. Pupils with an Education Health & Care Plan (formerly a Statement of Special Educational Needs) where the
school is named in the Education Health & Care Plan.
2. A looked after child: a child who is looked after under the provision of The Children’s Act 1989 or who has
been previously looked after.
3. Up to 20 applicants from the Inner Area (see note 1) who are eligible for Pupil Premium (see note 2) will be
promoted for a place in the 192 intake with ranking based on highest aggregate age-standardised score in the
tests amongst this group. Applicants will be considered for a Pupil Premium place if they provide written
confirmation, directly from their primary school that they are currently in receipt of free school meals. In the
event of a Pupil Premium candidate withdrawing from the process, the next highest ranked child under this
criterion will be considered for the place.
4. Up to 20 applicants from the Inner Area (see note 1) who show exceptional musical talent will be promoted for
a place in the 192 intake with ranking based on assessment of musical ability. Exceptional musical talent can
be shown on any instrument/s (including voice). As a guideline an applicant should usually have achieved at
least Grade 5 distinction level, but this will depend on the instrument as well as previous opportunity and
experience. Confirmation of this level may be tested by an audition. In the event of a Music candidate
withdrawing from the process, the next highest ranked child under this criterion will be considered for the
place. Due to the high volume of applicants expected to apply under this criterion, we will only be able to
contact those candidates required to audition.
5. The remaining places (namely our Published Admission Number of 192 less any admissions under Categories 1,
2, 3 and 4 as above) are offered to applicants from the Inner Area with the highest aggregate age-standardised
scores in the tests.
6. All supporting evidence in relation to the above over-subscription criteria (1-4) will need to be provided by 7
July 2017.
Notes
1. The “Inner Area” means applicants whose main address is in the following postcode areas; E2, E4, E5, E8, E9,
E17, EN1, EN2, EN3, EN4, EN5 (Sectors 1, 2, 4, 5 only), EN8 (Sectors 7, 8, 9 only), N1 (not N1C), N2, N3, N4, N5,
N6, N7, N8, N9, N10, N11, N12, N13, N14, N15, N16, N17, N18, N19, N20, N21, N22. There is no preference
within this list .“Main address” means the place at which the applicant spends the week day nights in the
ordinary course of events.

Depends on how many of those postcodes are in Harrow and which one of them is Stanmore?

I suggest you research the schools, decide on a short list and then look at your options for moving.

From where you are now you can sit the test for HBS, Latymer, Mill Hill County and SW Herts.

Mill Hill County registrations for the text have been open for three weeks now so I suggest you register, it is free and you have nothing to lose.

If you rank highly for Latymer and decide you like you will have until January to move into the catchment area.

If you move to Stanmore or Watford now you can sit Latymer but you will have to move back if you rank high enough for a place so if you like Latymer I suggest you stay put.

There is a difference between applying to sit the test and applying for a place at the school. You do those two things at different times.

Applying to sit these four tests is happening now and in the next few weeks.

Applying for entry to the school will happen when you complete your CAF form in by end of October.

You will receive your results for all of these tests in October in time for you to complete your form. DG

We weren't considering Latymer so not being in their catchment wasn't an issue for us. I know of a family who live in Woodside Park who have a dd at HBS and a ds at Latymer so around that area (or Finchley) might be an option for you. No good for WGGS though!

Daogroupie wrote:No. Latymer were forced to change their admissions policy 18 months ago. This was published on their website in November 2015 so in 2016 anyone in the UK was able to apply to sit the test.

But in order to apply for the school you meed to be in the catchment area by January of the year of entry. So you can apply for the test from Barnet and apply for the school from Barnet but you will need to move into the catchment area by end of January.

This is very clearly explained on their website where it was been since November 2015.

This will be the second year of anyone in Y5 being able to apply to take the test.

So you have more options than you thought.

If HBS is your main interest than much better to stay in Barnet and sit Latymer as a backup. DG
Many thanks Daogroupie, We are in Barnet but not in the catchment area. I guess it is ok to use our current address and look into moving to catchment area if DC gets through first round.
My question is would they give ranking after the second round so that we know if its worth a while moving before Jan ? Totally confused ! :(

It is now only 7 weeks until the first round exam for Latymer.

650 will go through to the second round in September.

The whole point of the results you will get in October for all selective schools is to give you the information that will enable you to decide if it is worth applying or not.

That was why all the schools were forced to move their exams to September to comply with this in 2012. Latymer will give you the detail you will need to decide if it is worth moving into their catchment area.

Have you signed up for the exam? Registration has been open for ten days now. I know of someone who signed up this morning and got a candidate number of 1264 so there will be a lot of competition for those 650 places. DG
