Does school go on to 4.30pm? If not, then it's not really an Open afternoon is it?

You need to see a school in 'normal' action not a show event.

... pretty sure OP said 2.00pm to 4.30pm... the school's in 'normal' session at least from 2.00pm to 3.30pm so you can see 1.5hrs of "action" i guess...

I doubt it looking at the description on the website. Perhaps someone could confirm if lessons were taking place?

Lessons were not taking place but it was very interesting: speech from the head teacher, all departments open for viewing, plenty of students showing us around, doing science experiments, playing in orchestra etc. DS loved it

Go round on a 'normal' day - these show events do not give a fair picture of any school.

My DD loved it too! We hope to go to one of the tours in October.

Like all the schools in this area it has an "open day" where normal lessons are not going on (or schools do this in evenings) and it has tours in the autumn term where the school is running as normal.
All of the schools do this (maybe not the case in all areas) and therefore it makes it a level playing field. Dd was there in the music department this afternoon where they had open rehearsal for people to watch.
