Verbal reasoning for Latymer and DAO
What's the new format for the Latymer and DAO be exams?
Does the 32 question format used earlier still need to be learnt?
Does it include a comprehension and just antonyms/synonyms.
Please help.

Re: Verbal reasoning for Latymer and DAO
Stressful,
Let's deal with DAO first. This is not a new format.
If your student is a Y5 they will be sitting the 4th year of the DAO English CEM exam in September 2018.
If you look at the CEM format in the forum shop look at the CGP ten minute CEM tests and the FPTP Vocabulary and Cloze books.
There is plenty of other material.
It is not Verbal Reasoning, it is English CEM. It is the same paper as the SW Herts.
Latymer moved to CEM for four years but returned to the old style Verbal Reasoning this year so you need to be looking at the Walsh, Athey, SD and Guyon VR books in the forum shop.
If your student is sitting both there is overlap in several sections. The biggest difference is the codes and number sequences.
When I returned to VR this year because of Latymer after three years away I was pleasantly surprised at the overlap. I hadn't remembered it to be so much.
For both speed and precision is required so any work you do on one will help the other.
DAO will continue with the CEM format, it is really working for them by dramatically reducing the number of English and Maths papers they have to mark. Last year only 28% of applicants passed the CEM leaving DAO with only 318 English and Maths papers to mark.
Latymer offered a first round VR and Maths on Saturday 15th July that 2800 students applied for.
That was very costly for them and it seems unlikely they will repeat this.
I would hold off on VR revision for Latymer until they confirm the format of this year's exam.
This time last year they announced the new format for the year, so watch this space. DG

Thank you DAOGROUPIE. Useful insight.
Re: Verbal reasoning for Latymer and DAO
Now that Latymer have confirmed that their VR paper is going to be provided by GL, should we still continue practising books like Guyon, Athey etc?
Any insights?

There has been no change in the VR format from last year.
GL VR can be prepared for using Walsh, Guyon and Athey. DG
