Summary of admission process for DAO. Please!
Is this correct?
(Obviously apply to sit test etc)
September: Sit test
October:Receive mark for VR and English, and Maths if VR and English scores are high enough (is it top 300?)
*is this when you receive your ranking eg out of 300 applicants your score puts you at number 70?*
Oct-Dec: Complete CAF
March: Notified offered a place or not. Is any further info given? On ranking?
Thanks

Not DAO specific, but if you don't submit your CAF by the national submission deadline of 31st October, you stand very little chance of getting your first, or possibly any, preference school on March 1stRubik wrote:Is this correct?

Whichever local authority you pay your council tax to, have a good read of the secondary school admissions information on its website. A key thing to understand is the admissions policy - make sure that you are looking at the correct year of entry - for each school in which you are interested. Plus, read the advice re how to fill in your CAF (and how not to ); it will be there on the website.

You will receive your ranking in October before the CAF deadline.
If you were not in the top 325 of CEM scores you will only have one score which is the CEM score and you will not be ranked.
Last year only 28% of those who sat the test passed the CEM and had their English and Maths papers marked.
If you are you will get your English and Maths papers marked and you will have three scores and a total score and a rank.
You can only apply if you are in the catchment area. DG

Actually, that last bit isn't true. You may apply to any school you like, whether or not your DC meets any of the entry criteria. However, for DAO, not being in catchment would put your chance of being offered a place at approximately zero, so it would be a waste of a space on your CAF.Daogroupie wrote:You will receive your ranking in October before the CAF deadline.

As DG said, it's the CEM score (not VR & English) which determines if you get English and Maths papers marked.
Although DAO website says VR, it is CEM.
CEM and English are on Sat 1st Sep, Maths on Mon 3rd Sep

Thank you for the insights into DAO. I’m trying to get prepared for 2019 but the terminology is hurting my brain.
I’ve a few books using the term ‘prepare for CEM style’ etc. CEM is an exam board for setting VR. Or am I wrong?!

Re: Summary of admission process for DAO. Please!
It is really not difficult.
CEM is a type of VR that is used by DAO, SW Herts and HBS.
If you go to the forum shop on this website you will find a whole section for CEM.
DAO use CEM as a first round to get the numbers down.
The CEM of all applicants will be marked and ranked in score order.
The first 325 will go through to the second round and have their English and Maths papers marked.
This is the same as HBS who take 300 girls from the first round out of 2700. DG

I think we’ve discussed this already. Shouldn’t that figure be 2,160 (according to page 48)?Daogroupie wrote: This is the same as HBS who take 300 girls from the first round out of 2700. DG

Thank you for the explanation. I have the CEM books and several others suggested over the years. When this area is new to someone it *is* quite difficult to navigate the terminology. I’ve really tried, DG, honestly!

Huge difference between 2160 and 2700 candidates.
