St Michael's Refurb??

Post by WaitingStM4077 »

Hi All

Not sure this is the right place for this, so feel free to move to a more suitable location.

I drove past the school today and saw a lot of building works going on.
Does anybody have any idea what is happening?
I am hoping the school is having a Refurb, hence the question marks, as it's in dire need of one.
If anyone has a clue some information would be welcomed. My DD will be staying on September and it would be great to know what to expect.

Thanks

I have heard that it has received £6 million from diocese for major capital works. The whole school is being rebuilt essentially. Not 100% on that figure though but there has been a substantial grant and the work is definitely happening and contracts awarded.

This explains it all in more detail. Sadly it means that sports will slip down the agenda even further as the girls are being shipped out to Burnt Oak Leisure Centre for PE as the sports area is out of use for at least two years.

It's very welcome by most current parents even if it's going to be inconvenient for a couple of years. That senior building needs a refurb urgently!

The sports hall will not be affected so some sports
are still possible, plus the hall for the many dance activities. I see it as a good thing.

The Planning Application Summary is here:

https://publicaccess.barnet.gov.uk/onli ... LM4JIJR300" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You'll find heaps of ground plans, floor plans, elevations, etc. It's huge build!
(Plenty of room for nice big Art Rooms. :) )

That link’s stopped working for me too. It could well be that I haven’t posted it properly. I’ll try again …

https://publicaccess.barnet.gov.uk/onli ... ab=summary

… but if the above doesn’t work search for “Planning, Conservation and Building Control” on Barnet’s website, and then go to Planning Applications > View planning applications and then search for St Michaels – you’ll find the relevant paperwork.

Wow!
£6million that's fantastic.
Thanks for all the info and looking forward to the new building.

DD and myself went to the school on Tuesday to meet the new Head Teacher.
He's really nice.
Spoke mainly to my DD, which I think she liked being treated as an adult.
He told us they were making a new car park.

Can't wait to see it when its all done.

This is the headmaster's second stint at St Michael's and it shows. He "gets" the school so isn't coming in gung ho to change it.
