I know that with some schools, such as HBS, the date you apply for a DC to take the test does seem to make a difference to the test slot offered but my impression is that QE test slots are assigned in alphabetical order of surname.

Not sure about the alphabetical order idea.

We are mid-alphabet and got the early morning session 3 yrs ago after applying early on day 1.

There were another 2 mid-alphabets from the same junior school there. Don't know when they applied.

I suppose it's possible they batch them alphabetically, but don't necessarily have the batches in alphabetical order through the day.

Whatever time slot you end up with, be prepared to queue for a long time And don't park in the hospital car-park; you will be clamped! in fact, don't drive at all - High Barnet doesn't really do parking. Get the bus from the tube station.
