Re: Admission to QE Boys
I imagine this would be unlikely, as if living in Sutton there would be a whole host of excellent grammar schools one could apply and travel to, before having to think about somewhere the other side of London and some
mad?

Are you asking because you are thinking of applying at some point in the future, or has your DS actually got a place for this September?parents11plus wrote:Hi,

As mad? has pointed out, there are excellent grammar schools in Sutton, so why would anyone inflict that journey on their child?

I would not apply from Sutton. It would be a nightmare journey for an adult, let alone a youngster. You could consider Sutton High, Wilson’s, Wallington and so on.

Sutton High School is the girls' indie, isn't it?Kingfisher wrote:I would not apply from Sutton. It would be a nightmare journey for an adult, let alone a youngster. You could consider Sutton High, Wilson’s, Wallington and so on.
Although possibly as sensible as sending a boy all the way to Barnet every day. I would be willing to bet that the cachet of QE would be losing its charms pretty quickly and by the end of the first month he'd be praying that he'd be 'culled' come the end of year 11...

Most likely, Kingfisher meant Sutton Grammar School.

Re: Admission to QE Boys
Your question is unclear.
Are you asking about if it is possible to get a place while living in Sutton then the answer is that it is your score that gets you a place, not your location, although if two boys have the same score the one closer to the school will get the place if it is the last place.
You have great schools in Sutton, there is no reason to try and get into QE if you live in Sutton unless you are keen to move to Barnet.
QE is non catchment to give families a chance to get a place and then move, not to subject their DS to hours on the train or in the car.
I used to live by Tower Bridge and work in Sutton and that was a pain for an adult but hopefully you are not considering what was my journey plus getting to Barnet there and back twice a day. DG

Re: Admission to QE Boys
Thanks all for your valuable advice.
We are currently renting and QE Boys is one of the preference schools our DS is preparing for so we were debating to move near the school to increase chances of getting in. Although it would mean being last (or perhaps not at all) on the selection list of Sutton schools as we'll be out of Sutton schools' catchment.
Regards,
Thanks.

Re: Admission to QE Boys
Moving closer to the school only increases your chance of getting in if your ds gets exactly the same score as someone nearer the school and it is the very last place to be allocated.
Why do you want to go to QE if you already live in Sutton and have a great choice of schools?
If you move closer you could end up with only one choice of school, if you stay where you are you could have a choice.
Have you visited QE? What is it that will make it worth moving and paying a lot more for rent that you are already and probably not having any local friends as QE boys come from far and wide. DG

QE, WCG, Wilson’s, and most places in SGS are open selective. You can always move at the beginning of the year 7, since you are renting at the moment. Moving now, you will need to search for a place in another primary school too.
Depending on where you are living now, you may also be in the catchment of Tiffin School.
