I hope they also lose their policy of unilaterally 'withdrawing' applications from OOC children and then going beyond 500 rank for IC children. If there are not enough eligible children living in catchment, then the places should go to OOC children in rank order.Daogroupie wrote:They have no choice.
They lost an adjudication and were forced to open their exams to all Y6 students in the UK. Previous to that their exam was only for students in the catchment.
You could argue that parents should not sit their student for the exam if they have no intention of moving. DG
What would be the reaction if unilateral withdrawal policy is adopted by, say, HBS?

Re: Latymer results will come out Tuesday or Wednesday this
Latymer has confirmed by phone this week that there will be no movement on the 8th January move by date.
This is making it very hard for parents who are intending to move into catchment but do not yet know if the English paper of their student is strong enough to secure a place.
The 8th June date was set up when the final results were due to be out mid October. As they are now not coming out until early December it seems very unrealistic to stick to the date arranged around a results date seven weeks earlier. DG

The January date is set as the latest possible date for amendments not to interfere with the national scheme for coordinating admissions. Really, if people are so desperate for their DC to attend a particular school, it is presumably also desirable to be living somewhere sensible (and in the case of a school with a defined priority admissions area, within that area) for that school.

Schools that have no catchment area for the exam make it possible to sit the exam and then wait for the result before moving. That was the point of the adjudication.
Latymer has not released the results yet and do not plan to until "early December"
How can parents move unless they know their student is ranked high enough for a place?
The first round results did not include 200 of the results and there is another whole paper to mark and include in the results so they can't possibly move based on the first round results. DG

It is very unfair to OOC. Latymer must have given more time or at least publish the final ranking by end of November or 1st week of December(which is still not good enough). If the intention is not to include OOC, then they should not have accepted the OOC application or set a condition that in order to sit for the exam they must move before the exam, like all other Grammar schools who have catchment conditions do. The dates were set as per the general norms. Genuinely many parents are applying based on what is given in the published documents. January 8 is a fair move date if we know the results before 31st Oct. If the final result date has moved, the Jan 8th date also should have moved, which is common sense. It is not a chance to discriminate against OOC.
Have they told when the final results will be out?

Re: Latymer results will come out Tuesday or Wednesday this
This was the response from Latymer when I asked about the tentative result release date -
"We cannot confirm the date at the moment, except to say that it will be before the Christmas break."
I am not sure how Latymer expects people to move in 1 week's time and that too holiday period

Re: Latymer results will come out Tuesday or Wednesday this
This is just shocking. They just have to mark the English paper for 650 which is the same as DAO marking two papers for 325 students and only slightly more than HBS marking two papers for 300 girls.
They need to do it by 3rd December so parents can change their CAF forms based on the results like they will be able to do for the DAO and HBS results. They have had more time to do this than DAO and HBS. DG
