Can anyone clarify what HBS Second Round English test consists of? Is it similar to the writing tasks we see in independent school papers? Should preparation include both narrative writing and non-fiction writing? Grateful for any advice and guidance - thank you in advance!

It could be any type of writing.

You need to prepare for all types such as letter, diary, writing about a picture, speeches, continue the story etc. DG

Any tips on how to prepare for both maths and English for HBS, any materials that are particularly helpful? Apologies if this has already been answered elsewhere...

some materials which my DC found useful..
11+ GL 10-Minute Tests by CGP & Letts and GL assessment papers (pack 1,2,3) on English, VR and NVR for stage 1 along with CGP, FPTP, AE GL assessment papers.

for stage 2, English comprehension was based on long text with couple of questions on it needing detailed explanation. For Composition, normally couple of choices to choose from.

For the second stage
English - 11+ and 13+ ISEB books, Independent school papers, RSL comprehension packs. (Ability to read, comprehend and compose different flavours of text and comprehend from Classic/contemporary/poem based text)
Maths - Independent school papers, FPTP 11+ Maths Worded Problems Books (1,2,3).. ISEB maths books

VR can have some types not seen in typical GL assessment 21 types. My DD found NVR time constrained and English multiple choices somewhat tricky. I think they devote considerable planning with their own test and with their provider.
