Yes.

I think all those on 234 have a very good chance of a place.

I think it is likely to reach 233 but I don't think it will go any further.

I know of two dc who will be giving up their places today for Westminster and HABS so that should take you to at least 13. DG

Anyone know when the WL will be updated?
Will parents receive an email if position changes?
I remember reading somewhere that the school website will be updated with current WL position offers, however, no idea when this will start.
As independent school deadlines are almost over, if places become available, will QE boys start offering these on WL before the council deadlines - which I think are around 15/3...
Thanks ☺️

They will put the numeric position that the WL has reached on their website and they will update it regularly.

WL number one is 235, WL number two is either 235 or 234 and WL 3 is 234. So hopefully it will reach 234 shortly giving hope to the 233s. DG

If the waitlist moves in line with typical years, then those scoring 232 should have a chance. (based on the anonymized results, 30 boys scored 234 and 23 scored 233).

However this isn't a normal year. We gave up a place at Westminster (our original 1st choice) for QE predominantly because we couldn't see the additional 250k of value and just a feeling that the top indies have not adapted as well to covid - we felt there was a certain level of arrogance and vagueness (i.e. tests will be sometime during this period, just be ready at a moment's notice).

We were impressed with how QE managed to test almost 3,000 boys around their original dates albeit spread over 4 days rather than delay it as many other schools had done. We also liked the fact they got the results out as scheduled and gave parents like myself a certain level of clarity during a period of huge uncertainty. Even after results day, they have moved very quickly on all aspects.

First waiting list update is usually at the end of this term - maybe a few days earlier if you're lucky.
Second update at the start of the summer term, then as and when places become available.

Not all the 234s and 233s are on the waiting list. I know a boy with a score below 233, but whose WL position is a lot less than 53.

Obviously, this is not a typical year. However, the higher cut-off on Monday is in line with the higher number of applicants. It's not necessarily an indication that the WL will move slowly.

We'll get a better idea when the first update is posted on the website. Somebody did an analysis last year that the final WL movement in recent years has been ROUGHLY 2x the first movement.

I agree on fact that not all those on 234 or 233 are on waitlist. I partly wanted to counter DG's earlier opinion that it wouldn't reach 232 and stating some stats for reference. However, I certainly don't want to raise hopes purely based on my opinion which is why I also said this wasn't a normal year and my own reasons why. It could well be that this year, more parents will go for indie's due to perceived better lockdown learning.

For those DS on scores below 234 who want a QE place, hope for the best but plan for the worst and no matter how assured someone on this forum comes across, it's still their best guess and not something you should place all your hopes on. The truth is, no-one truly knows unless they know the true intentions of all existing offer holders.

Hi,

I know 3 DC who got 234

1st - WL 7 Distance 6 miles
2nd - WL 21 Distance 8 miles
3rd - WL 28 between 21 miles

These details might be helpful to others.

Thank you very helpful.

I can't imagine there could be more than a couple on 234 that are greater than 21 miles away so that would mean there are 27/28 students on 234 on the waiting list.

If there are about the same for 233 then it does seem that it may not reach 232.

The waiting list was only on 46 on 11th July last year.
