DAO 1st round VR results 20TH September 2021

Post by Daogroupie »

For some reason my post on this got merged into a post about results in March 2021 which is incorrect as these are the results for entry in September 2022, so I have created a new post.

The lowest score to go through to the second round is 106. 2 DC on 106 did not get a place as there were not enough places so the 106 ranked DC will have been allocated on closest to the school with the last two not getting a place.

I know of 3 scores of 141 which is the maximum possible score but there are likely to be around 8 as in previous years.

There is one date for the standard format English and Maths second round which is Sat 25th September with two separate sittings: 830am and 1230pm. There will be 325 DC split between these two sittings.

There is also likely to be a backup date for those unable to sit on Saturday.

The English and Maths papers will also have a maximum possible score of 141 and the total final score for each DC in the second round will consists of all three scores added together.

Each DC will be allocated a unique rank for their total final score.

For DC on the same total score these DC will be ranked first by VR, then by English and if the score is still the same then the ranks are decided by distance from the school to produce an individual rank.

There are 65 academic places available, so when the results of the second round come out in October the 65 DC ranked 1 to 65 will be offered a place at the school, if they apply on their CAF form and DAO is their highest ranked school that they receive an offer from.

Last year 20 DC in the top 65 ranks either did not apply or ranked DAO lower than other schools such as HBS, QE and Latymer. So DC with ranks 66 to 85 who applied and ranked DAO higher than other schools they received an offer from also received offers from DAO on 1st March 2021 allocation day.

A waiting list was created and ranks from 86 to 109 were then offered places from later in March to August.

That was 14 places down on the previous year when the last rank to receive an offer was 123. DG

All very quiet on the DAO posts, anyone know if it was harder this year than previous years?

Good luck to all those 325 sitting the next round

Next round is tomorrow.

The pass mark has been within one mark three years in a row so it does not really change.

What does change is how many DC are actually prepared for the second round.

DC with high scores in the VR, 130's and even 141 lose out on a place as they have spent too much time on VR and not enough time on English and Maths. It is the same with HBS DG

I was talking about the lowest score obtained that gained a place in the second round.

1st year of VR it was 105 and last year it was 106 and this year it was 106. DG

But does 105 or 106 actually equate to a score? With the age-standardised-score process, plotted with 141 at the top and 100 as the average, with a cut off line at candidate 325, won’t the cut-off line fall around the same point every year anyway once the scores are plotted in that way, regardless of the actual scores?
