Less than one third of those who sat the VR exam are returning today for the English and Maths papers, so only 1 in 3 of the original applicants.

Those with the best chance of securing an offer for a place at the school will be those who had the highest scores in the VR paper, however there will also be those who are stronger in Maths and English than VR, so will pick up more marks today than they did on September 1st.

At least 4 and probably around 10 already have the max score from the VR paper, but a place in the 65 is not a done deal for any of those. Two years ago one of the 141's was still 10th on the waiting list by September. This was a result of much lower scores in English and Maths. Two years ago the DC ranked first had only one 141 and that was in VR. The DC ranked 4th had two, Maths and VR, but had a total score that was 8 marks lower. It is the total score that is the critical factor and it only matters where the marks come from when two DC are on exactly the same score in which case the VR score and then the English score are ranked higher. Two scores with exactly the same combination of marks are ranked by distance from the school.

This year offers for those who applied and ranked DAO as their highest preference reached rank 85 on allocation day and then rank 109 by July. This was considerably lower than the final rank of 123 the previous year.

Will it continue the trend downwards this year or return to the levels of 2020?

How many girls returning today will also be sitting the second round of HBS next Friday? I would estimate at least 10% and at least 10% of the boys will be hearing about a strong score at QE the same day. Edited by moderator

The morning sitting of the DAO English and Maths exam was delayed by 30 mins because of the Cockfosters road being blocked by drivers trying to secure petrol next to the tube station.

Amazing that QE and DAO were both impacted this year after all the delays last year. Let's hope the HBS round two sessions will go ahead smoothly on Friday. DG
