Over age and raw scores.

Post by dltracy »

I have posted before about my son he has had approx. 2 full years off of school due to ill health (18 mnths at one time) and because of this was put back a year.
When he went back to school in year 2, he was so far behind he was placed in the special needs category, but he has worked very hard and in year 5 gained 3 level 5's.
When sitting this years 11+, he was doing fairly well with all the tests done at home, mainly achieving between 75-86% overall, but when the results came though we were all gobsmacked at the low marks that he achieved.
When contacting BCC to ask if there was anything I could do they have advised me to ask for his 'raw score' marks as he has been very heavily penalised for his age!
His teacher felt he would do well, but unfortunely his Head is one of these that if your face doesnt fit - tough.
What can I do with the raw scores when I receive them and is there anything I can do in the meantime?
Any help would be great.
And well done to all the children that passed.

Hi dltracy

This really is one for the specialist - standardisation is so complex!

Etienne is busy today (I am auditioning as her personal secretary!!), but is hoping to be back online later.

Wish I could be of more help!
