Number of Applications to Secondary Schools in Hertfordshire

Post by AlisonR »

Just noticed this document on the Herts CC website.

http://www.hertsdirect.org/infobase/doc ... report0910

it gives a breakdown of applications in 2008 and 2009 for each Secondary School... it doesn't give a breakdown of how applications were successful.

Below gives, school name, 2009 applications, 2008 applications... sorry for the lousy layout.

Alison

Bushey Hall, 318, 111
Bushey Meads, 692, 678
Queens, 1148, 1016
St Clement Danes, 775, 656
Francis Combe, 310, 196
Parmiters, 1326, 1124
St Michaels, 452, 403
Kings Langley, 522, 524
Rickmansworth, 1002, 915
Watford Boys, 797, 735
Watford Girls, 782, 699
Westfield, 393, 277

It also shows the number of Out of County children allocated a place at Hertfordshire schools... again School Name, 2009 figure, 2008 figures

Bushey Hall, 2,7
Bushey Meads, 8, 13
Francis Combe, 0, 1
Parmiters, 16, 17
Queens, 13, 8
Rickmansworth, 15, 12
St Clement Danes, 23, 22
Watford Boys, 24, 34
Watford Girls, 26, 27
Westfield, 0, 1

Wow thanks for that Alison - it's really interesting. I'd got the impression (from chat not reliable sources!) that this was a bumper birth year, but it seems that applciations have fallen everywhere except a couple of extras to Kings Langley.

And actually - given how close we are in this part of the county to neighbouring boroughs - I'm surprised at how few OoC children were allocated places.

Am I reading this wrong but applications appear to have gone up with Parmiters heading the stampede with an increase from 1124 last year to 1326 this year?

You are right Sressed But Survivor ...the figures have all increased... its the 2009 figures first and 2008 figures second... I know that the format is tricky to read, if anyone knows how to make it more readable let me know (or just go to the link for the full info).

Remembering our trouble with primary school places for my son I knew it was a high birth year and excepted numbers to be up on last year but not to the extent they have.

I expected Parmiters applications to increase by more than the Grammars due to the change in sibling rule... but even Queens had over 100 more applications this year.

Some other facts for the community schools in the Watford area... "table" shows PAN (published admission number, 2009 allocation and 2008 allocation).

Westfield, 210, 300, 240
Kings Langley, 180, 180, 180
Francis Combe, 210, 249, 279
Bushey Hall, 180, 279, 230

This confirms (to me) that the children in the SW corner of our area have suffered the most from the large number of applications as lots of children have been pushed into Westfield and Bushey Hall rather than Kings Langley and Francis Combe.

Interesting and helps provide answers for some. Does anyone have the figs for LBB? Herts seem quite efficient.

I think that the Barnet figures are included in the document I get the web address of. Dame Alice Owen school is certainly listed.

Think that is not counted as LBB.

Reader, I stand corrected, DAO is listed under Potters Bar which comes under Hertfordshire's remit.

I found the document on the Herts CC website under the school admissions section. Perhaps there is a similar thing on the Barnet CC website?

I looked. Some info from last year on individual school info but that's it.
