Choosing schools

Hi I'm new to all this and was wondering if anyone could help me and expalin the admission process for Berkshire grammar schools.

I live in Hounslow and also need to apply to 1 or 2 of our local comprehensive schools in case my son didn't get into 1 of our grammar schools.

I know we have a choice of up to 6 schools in Hounslow, but does that include grammar schools from Berkshire, i.e. do all our choices go on 1 form regardless of the borough?

Would appreciate any help in this minefield that is 11+!

all the schools, regardless of where they are, go on one form (submitted to your LEA).

Herschel, Langley and St Bernards are in a consortium. To apply for these schools you must complete a 'consortium' registration form... you get the registration form from your first choice consortium school..

Slough Grammar has it's own registration form.....and as their exam has been brought forward (to allow the results to be out before you fill in your CAF) you have to register in the summer term.

When you fill in your LEA CAF... you must list the schools (whether Berkshire or local) in your preference order.

Hi,

I also live in LB Hounslow. I did a lot of research on this last year as my daughter is currently in year 6. I spoke to the admissions team at both Hounslow and Slough to gather as much info as possible.

All schools including the Grammar schools go on the same form. LB Hounslow operate the equal preference system. I was adviced by the admissions team at Hounslow to place the Grammar schools highest on the CAF form. This means that in the event that your child failes the 11+ the local schools in effect become the highest ranked schools. In my case I put 2 GS in 1st and 2nd places and 3 local schools in places 3, 4 and 5. My daughter failed both 11+ tests (by 1 and 2 points respectively) so my 3rd, 4th and 5th place schools became 1,2 and 3.

I was originally offered my 3rd choice local school but was top of the waiting list for my 1st choice local school which I was offered 2 weeks later. I went on to win my appeal for Slough Grammar so that is where DD will be going in Sept.

Warning, Slough Grammar open evening is on the 29th April and the closing date for registration to sit the 11+ is sometime in June.

Wow PartyGirl, Congratulations on your DD getting into to Slough, I'm so pleased for you!!!!

Celeste, I'm also in Hounslow, and went through the 11+ successfully last year. I spoke to Hounslow Council a few times, please email me if you have any queries.

Gosh, I cant believe thaty Sloughs Grammar's deadline is in June!! Thanks for poiting the out PG.
