Help me understand Year 5 NFER Verbal scores

Post by HJC66 »

Could anyone provide some advice please. I've been given some academic results by my DD Headteacher and whilst I understand most of it, I'm struggling to understand NFER Verbal Scores.

In February 2008 , whilst in Year 5, aged 9 years and 9 months, DD sat NFER Verbal test and scored 116. Thanks to this forum, I found a link that took me NFER website and gave me information on standardised scores and percentiles.

My question is this:
a) is my DD test score of 116 a standardised score?
b) Am I correct in assuming that my DD percentile ranking is therefore 86%?

Many thanks for any advise you can offer. :)

Yes, the 116 is a standardised score. It means that your DD's score put her in the top 14% for her age. Hope that helps.

Hi Complete Novice
Thanks for the reply. I was hoping I'd interpreted the information on NFER website correctly. Always good to get another opinion. Thanks once again.
