Appeal!!!
Hi from a nervous mother!!
I hope someone can give me some reassurance as my son's appeal is on Monday 1st June.
I am so worried as I have been told the local Grammar School I am appealing for is over subscribed and boys who have passed the 11+ are on a waiting list.
My son gained a pass mark of 372 (pass mark being 360), but failed by 1 mark on his NVR paper. His scores were - MATHS 130 , VR 129 and NVR 113 (114 being the passmark).
It's so frustrating!!! Especially as other boys in his year were not in top sets, were not predicted a level 5 and not supported by the school. My son was all these things.
I am so scared I have no chance before I even set through the door. I am also worried as my son suffers from anxiety attacks which causes him to have a stomach migraine. He had this during 11+ time but has been discharged with no more symptoms since exams finished. He is however, anxious about the bus journey to the school we accepted. Do you think this will go against us? What does any one think?

Have you read the Q&As? (Follow link at top of page.)
It's not clear to me what sort of case you're trying to present.
Do you have alternative evidence of ability in NVR? Some schools, for example, do CATs, which include NVR.
Failing that, if you're lucky, you might find an educational psychologist willing to test just NVR:

Are you arguing that your son underperformed because of his stomach problem, and, if so, what evidence are you putting forward?
What arguments are you putting forward against oversubscription? You mention the bus journey to the allocated school, but is the journey to the GS much easier, and is your GP likely to support this?

I wish you lots of luck with your appeal on 1st June.
As I understand it, you can appeal for a place due to non qualification and if it is successful the school have to take you (over subscribed or not).
So I would concentrate on proving he is grammAr school material (and use the medical issue as mitigating circumstances.)

Thanks to all for your well wishes of support for my appeal on 1st June.
I am certainly glad it's over. I now have to wait until around the 14th to get the results.
To anyone who hasn't their appeal yet, good luck. Just to reassure you, the panel was really nice and put me at ease, however, I am worried that we will fail appeal on the grounds that my son suffers with migraine attacks when he is under stress or anxious. How will he cope in a Grammar Environment was the question they mostly was concerned about. The deputy head came in with us to support our son. We all had our say, explaining he is in top sets for all subjects, high pass scores. We answered questions confidentaly. But I am still worried that I didn't say more. I was quite nervous.
Do you think they can penalise my son for having migraine attacks? He hasn's had any since 11+ exams. Thanks.
