Extra time for Aspergers pls?

Post by lisnagree »

Does anybody know if children with Aspergers in Buckinghamshire have ever been granted extra time?

is your child on teh Special Needs register? does he/she have a clinical psychologist or doctor involved whop you could ask for ideas?

Have a word with the class teacher or Senco ,or alternatively you could speak to someone at county.

Even if there is no extra time allowed it would be a good idea to make sure he/she is familiar with the tests, knows where they will be taking teh test and exactly what they have to do. Reducing the anxiety will help

She has a statement of special needs and receives help from the specialist teaching service. When we raised the matter at her transition review we were told by Senco/headteacher and the specialist teacher that there was no extra time but have been told by county that we need to make a formal application through the school.

In that case make an appointment to see Senco and tell her what county have said. possibbly they weren't aware that extra time was available.
was there someone from County AEN dept at the annual review? Go for all the help you can get! In Kent we have a group calledpartnership with parents which provides non biased help for parents in all aspects of SEn, is tehre somethingsimilar in Bucks? Guest 55 may be able to help she used to be a senco too.

When DS1 sat his Bucks 11+ with extra time the other boy who also had extra time was a child with aspergers.

Our experience 2 years ago was that to get extra time the Head had to fill in a form at the end of Year 5 (i.e. now!) and we had to countersign it to agree to him making the request. But it was only after advice on this forum that we even knew we had to ask. The responsibility seemed to be for us to ask and then for the Head to do the form. The Senco didn't really have any part in it. I am not sure if this is normal or just our experience. Perhaps ask for a meeting with the Head.

We have Parent Partnership in Bucks - I have found them really helpful.
