Change in Catchment

Post by honscupboard »

Etienne- can you help?
This may seem odd as have not even sat exam yet, but have just seen on the Dorset section of the forum that Poole Grammar school has changed its admission arrangements that were published in April, in light of an appeal sent to the adjudicator. Can they do this?
Originally there were named state feeder schools who were termed in catchment and all others (ie indies and out of Poole) termed out of catchment. As a parent at an indie felt this was discrimination, the judgement has ruled that the in catchment status reflects where you live and not which school you attend.
Fine for us, but this puts at least 2 friends out of catchment as they had moved since their children were accepted into feeder state schools. It is also too late to move again as applications need to be in 12 weeks time.
I hope this makes sense
Thanks

Hello, honscupboard

It sounds as if the following might apply in this case:
4.24 The Admission Arrangements Regulations 2008 (see paragraph 4 of the introduction) permit admission authorities to amend their admission arrangements to ensure that they comply with the law and the mandatory requirements of this Code, for example, to include mandatory criteria, such as those related to children in care, or to remove prohibited criteria or practices, such as any of those listed in paragraph 2.16. These arrangements must be changed to comply with the mandatory provisions of this Code.
