A few questions

Post by Potato »

OK, advice needed please!
1. Can anyone confirm that all the exams are 50 mins in duration each?
2. How is the marking done, is it marks out of 100% as in other exams ?
3. Let`s just say you pass one and get a borderline score in other two, is this good enough to go to an appeal?
Thanks to all :(

1. Can't confirm how long each exam is, but personally I wouldn't get too bogged down in that. My personal opinion is that if a child goes into an exam thinking that they have 50 mins to answer 80 questions, and the format changes slightly, they might get flustered and not do well.

2. The papers are marked in a normal way, but the score you get given is in a standardised format. So you get a score out of 140, with 140 being the top score and about 120 being the minimum which you require to pass the paper. If you look through the Kent forum you will find more threads on how it all works.

3. From what I understand you can appeal however good or bad your mark is, as a child might have a very good mark but not get into a GS because of distance. However, the chances of winning a appeal is a different story altogether.

Hope some of that helps.

The actual pass marks change each year, but are usually around, 120, 120, 115
