Use everyday 'real objects' around the house - estimate then work out what the volume is.

Again - with faces, vertices and edges everyday shapes are good.

vertices = corners (count them)

faces = 'flat' sides (again just count them))

edges = where two faces join (practical work again)

Anything that is a cube, cuboid could also be thought of as a dice. Children know that a dice has six sides.

Fortunately for my DD, when I work with her, I usually have either beer or wine to hand. She is therefore quite adept and estimating volumes in multiples of 250 ml, 440 ml, and 70 cl.

Whether she will grow up with a drink problem is something we can address later.

a very understandiong father and so far sighted of you.

When my children had done very well in SAts we went out to study angles, vectors and velocity and of course mental arithmetic, particularly doubling, trebling and mental subtraction.

we went to the pub and played pools and darts

Dice means there are more than one of them. It is one die ...
