Loosing things

I am sure I am not the only one to complain about boys loosing their belongings, but yesterday's events almost caused my nervous breakdown. Last week my son lost his Art apron, borrowed one from his friend and subsequently lost the frind's one on the same day.

Yesterday he lost his full to the brim PE BAG! It contained 2 pairs of new trainers worth £70 and all the rest. Total loss around £200.00. He left the bag unattended for 5min at the school playground next to some other bags. Only his went missing. I still hope it will turn up, but so far nothing he lost at school has been found. On top of that when he was packing his bag he could not find his art apron!! Yes, the third one in a week!
I do not where to look for the strenght to survive all his years in school, which are ahead of me! Any advice what to do with/to DS very welcomed.

someone somewhere suggested getting laundry stamps, the idea being that at least they can't be unpicked (and easy!) OK, so it doesn't magically "find" your boy's possessions but it might make them less attractive to, er, wander.

, Moose, it helps me to know I'm not in the minority.

Generally, I pay for the the first replacement, letting my lovely forgetful offspring know, that without a doubt, they will be forking out for all other subsequent replacements of said item.

Appears to work. They won't loose that item again, but of course another type.

All the items, including bag were labeled (I took advise from the forum and bought No More Sewing Stick on Labels-great inventon indeed!) and the bag had a padlock on. There seems to be a black hole in school. Things evaporate..
..I still love him, but it does not make me less angry. I can take single items, even 3 aprons , but not the whole bag!

Is it definitely your son at fault - not some kind of prankster at work?

It is possible. Could have been a joke, an act of revange or jelousy (he is not aware of any obvious enemies) or sb took a possesion of it.
Hopefully the school will investigate the misterious disappearance and come back with some positive outcome.

You have my sympathy. My son was exactly the same as yours. Last year i.e y7, he lost 3 x DT aprons at school even with his BIG NAME written on the front. 1 full bag of PE kit and a pair of trainers worth about £70 on the train. I full bag of Rugby kit with an expensive gum shield in it.

I was so annoyed and fed up that I decided he would not have any school dinner money for the whole month. He loved his school dinner especially the pudding, instead, he was only allowed his packed lunch form home for that month. He was not a happy boy and so far in yr 8, has not lost anything YET!!!

Hi Moose,
Last year (Y7 ) the total losses were as follows:
2 pairs glasses
One pair PE shorts
One PE polo shirt
2 watches
One almost new pair school shoes ( vapourised during a football match)
AND
One ipod Touch ( approx £200)



So far in Y8 - NOTHING!!! My commiserations but hopefully he will get better!

losses in Year 7: lab coat, school coat, pe shorts, oyster card, school jumper. So far, fingers crossed, nothing lost in Year 8!!

meant to add school coat turned up at end of year - of course he now has two coats as I'd replaced it - it annoys me that these things were all name labelled.
