RESULTS QUESTION

Post by lec »

Does anyone know how results for Carres Grammar are given?
We find out on 10th October which is a Saturday.
Also are they given in percentages or something else?
AND...If child has 'passed' how do we know if he will be accepted at Grammar[we won't know until March]so it is not automatic is it?
I know I sound dense but have only returned to Uk in April from Ireland and lots to take in.
All info greatly received.

Hi and welcome,
Results are posted out on the Friday, though sometimes children at primary schools in the area seem to find out a bit in advance!

The letter usually just says "has reached the qualifying standard" or words to that effect or "has not reached the qualifying standard". You generally have to ring the school to find out the actual scores.

The qualifying mark is a standardised score of 220 over the two tests.

Reaching the qualifying score does not guarantee a place. You need to read the Admissions Policy as priority is given to children living in the designated area, then those attending certain primary schools and then on score order to those living outside the area.

It would be unusual for a child who reached the qualifying score and lived in area not to get a place (but that is not to say it couldn't happen!), however last year the cut-off score for an out of area place was 225.

You will not know for definite until the March 1 offers are sent out, but finding out the score and talking to the school should give you a fairly good idea of your chances.

Alex...do you mean we can get the score from the Grammar school?
Our son is no longer at the primary school.
If he passes do I ring the Grammar for the score?

Hi,
Just done the other thread!!
Carre's are usually happy to give out the score when you ring them and even the breakdown of the scores if you wish to know. They will also generally give you some indication of whether you are likely to get a place. If you live within area (which is basically the designated transport area for the school) you would usually get a place simply by achieving the qualifying score of 220. Out of area the cut off score last year was 225.
