CATS test results
Hi
Have just received CATS test results (set by GL assessment) and the scores were 9 for Verbal. 8 for quantitative and 8 for Non Verbal. These are standardised scores. We (!) are due to take the 12+ in November - are we on track? Can anyone interpret these? Parent evening is after the test, but school not keen on helping with Grammar prep.
Thanks

These seem to be stanine scores they have given you for the Cats rather than actual standardised scores. To have abeen given a 9 means that the standardised score lay between 127 and 140 and puts your child in the top 3% of the population in terms of ability. The 8's show a standardised score lying somewhere between 118 and 127 and therefore in the top 10% of the population roughly. I was at a parents' evening at Kendrick school last year which is a "superselective" and the headmistress said that most of their pupils lay in the 8's with a minority in the 9s. It sounds like your child did very well.
Best wishes
