Can anyone help?
I remember reading a great thread recently in which a couple of clever posters had summarised the 5 or 6 (or more??) basic types of story-themes typically asked for - the I-was-scared-but-survived; the summer's / winter's day; the monster (may have got these wrong but you get the ghist). Problem is, I can't find this thread now. Any suggestions where I should look?
Hope so

Re: English essay - topics
I have copied here some (imho) interesting titles from some English essay writing books that I have, that I thought may make useful practice for pupils preparing for their eleven plus English essay writing exam. In some instances, I’ve slightly modified the title to make it more appropriate for 11-year-olds.BB248 wrote:Can anyone help?

The actual books are prepared by Abraham Sung (see scans):

Here’s the first batch of titles:
• Break time at school.
• Write a story on: A lost key.
• Is life too hectic to enjoy fully?
• My favourite memories.
• A farewell party.
• An attempted robbery.
Some more challenging titles for those who think the above are easy peasy:
• Describe the scene and the activities at a bus station.
• What are your reactions to discipline? How far is it necessary both at home and at school?
• The twentieth century is an age of greed. Do you agree?
• In what respects does the life of your generation differ from that of your grandparents?
• Write about how people from your area earn their living and how various jobs affect family life.
• Discuss the good and bad effects of competition in modern life.
Happy writing!
