Gifted and Talented count in appeal?

Post by Maureen »

Does anyone know if being on the Gifted and Talented register can have any sway in an appeal for not qualifying for a Glos Grammar?

Certainly worth a mention, I would have thought, but I have the impression that within each school pupils are often identified for G&T on a percentage basis. The extent to which it carries weight, therefore, may depend on the quality of the school. In that sense it's a little bit like being in the 'top set' - it's harder to achieve in a high achieving school!

Specialist schools

My understanding is that it could have some sway if the school has a specialism eg. art or sport and that is the area that your child is on the register for. It is worth looking on the admissions part of their website as I believe some grammars with specialisms are allowed to give out of catchment children (not over catchment children) a place if they have are on the G&T list for their specialism. I think the child still has to pass the 11 plus though.
Could be wrong, but worth a look. :)

A valid point - I was thinking more of evidence against non-qualification.
