How are you going to 'treat' yourself?

Post by PB Mum »

I think you guys (in the pc sense) are great - wish I'd found the forum sooner...you post because you care, about your DCs, your family, other forum members :D . Life is difficult for all of us at times, and the carers are often at the bottom of the list of 'things to do'. There's not much 'me' time in our busy lives, BUT it is important to make some, and treat yourself - Christmas being a good time to do.
The posting about TVs in bedrooms reminded me of my 'me' present last year, a small flat screen TV mounted in the kitchen, with an integral DVD player. I can now spend Sunday mornings washing, ironing the school kit, peeling the veg, loading the Raeburn, and catch up on the week in the background...and when it's done, grab a stool and watch a DVD, or James Bond, with a glass of wine...it's funny how another stool will scrape up alongside to do the crossword, or watch the dvd (please note NOT whilst the peeling's going on  )
What would be your treat that your family could organise for you?

They could take time off work so I could have days off (I'm a carer for my middle daughter) to go out to do things I want to do on my own - I like doing family history and research WWI so time spent in research rooms isn't appropriate for my dd.

Unfortunately no-one thinks to do things like that and I don't like to ask, they work very hard and need their time to relax themselves.

Shut up Snowdrops! Of course you deserve time to relax as much as any member of your family. ASK or I will find out where you live and put a post it on your fridge for Toy Boy. Anyway being youthful he'll have plenty of energy to give you a break! :)

Gym membership and the freetime to go (without feeling guilty).

Oh Snowdrops, I wish I could help.

Great thread PB Mum. That sounds like a lovely treat, If it were me though...I would lock the kitchen door and not share!!

Pretty much the same here too Snowdrop :( I spend all my time looking after the children and carer (no.3 has quite a few health problems) and by the time evening comes I am too shattered to do anything!

Although I did manage a weekend away camping with just my DS1 which was lovely, but still-not completely on my own either

We cannot afford to go on holiday with the kids as a whole family so we have decided that once a year one parent is going to take one boy abroad for a weekend to a place of interest - Rome, Paris etc. We feel that this might be a nice way to reconnect with them as individuals and they will still have some good memories. It does worry me that my kids don't have any key memories because we cannot afford special holidays so we're hoping this will be a compromise.

Oh Tipsy, you really should try camping with them, a fantastic bonding experience enjoyed so much by the children and parent's alike, or are you more of a hotel person? Me personally, I couldn't careless what I look like when camping

My OH is going to take DS1 to Rome next year as well and I get the field

I'll be doing the foreign trips and OH will be doing the camping. I don't mind camping I just hate the issues around needing to go to the loo. :x

:D :D THis made me smile, this is exactly what I did when we moved into our current house 18 months ago, the scene you describe in your kitchen on a Sunday is very much the same in ours! (except for the Raeburn, thats the next thing on my list!) How many others across the nation do the same, i wonder?
