Calculators

Post by northernsoul »

Can anyone help? Have been asked to buy a calculator with a pi button for year 7 work. Having scoured the shops, all the calculators appear to have everything else but a pi button. Does anyone have a calculator with a pi button? Or do the scientific calculators that are generally available have hidden functions that aren't evident from just looking at the keypad? :?
Thank you.

They may have a button with a pi written above it in colour, indicating that you get it by pressing a shift key.

My Casio (bought from ASDA or Tesco - can't remember  ) has a pi button in this case it is by using the shift key and the 10 to the power of x key.

Don't take this the wrong way but it will be a greek pi ie

Bottom row on the x10x key.

These calculators are cheap as chips in Tesco.

also... CASIO FX-85ES. The cheaper cousin and almost as capable.

DS1 needed one for yr6 so I went into local shop and asked for a calculator for GCSE so it would have necessary buttons, it was very cheap about £6 I think.

Good Luck!!

as others have said they are quite cheap - I paid about £6 for my Casio fx83-ES from a supermarket.

Does more than I can ever remember needing for A level maths! (but then we used to use log tables in those days. )
