Black Beauty, Anne of Green Gables series, Little Women series, What Katy Did series, Jacqueline Wilson (although I was glad when my daughter stopped reading these books), A Little Princess, Alice In Wonderland, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe series.
So many more but my brain's tired...
When I couldn't initially get my daughter to try a certain book, I would read a few paragraphs (or more) to her. That usually whetted her appetite.
Also, it's easy to forget how much children enjoy being read to once they are fluent readers. It's a way for children to access higher level texts but it can also make it more enjoyable than having to trawl through a book alone.

DD1 loves to read, she started with Enid Blyton - Secret seven. Famous Five etc. Also the chronicles of Narnia. She likes the Roman Mysteries series (which has been made into a TV series on CBBC)
Easy readers (just started to read independently 5-8 ish DD2) are; My Secret Unicorn,The Rainbow fairies series, Charmseekers (The 1st comes with a bracelet the the other books come with a charm) or Magic Kitten/Puppy/Pony series etc.
The Tiffany Aching Series by Terry Pratchett are great for more confident readers. Wee Free Men, Hat full of sky and Wintersmith so far.

Awesome book! I loved it, read it until my copy fell apart!!pheasantchick wrote:I hadn't read to mine for a long time until recently and then I read Secret Severn (Enid Blyton). We all enjoyed the storeis (we've read 2- 3 books so far).
Also in the past I read Gobbelino, the Witches Cat and Teddy Robinson - childhood favourites of mine, which proved popular.
Saying that I think I'm on my third or fourth copy of Mist over Pendle. It's the book I read whenever I'm feeling down or ill. I love it, but I've read it so many times it takes no concentration whatsoever, I can quote chunks

Depends on how old your DD is - my year 5 DD loved all the Harry Potter books, Mallory Towers, St. Clares, The Worst Witch, and then abandoned the girly stuff and went for Alex Ryder and Ravensgate/Evil Star. She is currently into Lemony Snicketts Series of Unfortunate Events and Michelle Paver's Chronicles of Ancient Darkness. Also loves any tales of Roman/Greek Gods and Goddesses.
With my year 2 DD we are going for animal stories (but not magic anything) like the Sheep Pig, Fantastic Mr Fox, as she really isn't interested in fairies. Only books she reads of her own volition are Dr. Who.
