turning down grammar offer

As a matter of interest is anyone here likely to turn down an offer from AGS in the next month in favour of independent school offer?

Not personally but some people with good scholarship offers or bags of cash will do so. Some people just like the 'status' of provate schooling as well...

I know that can be the case dodger but was thinking that maybe some have applied for grammars as a fallback - I know it works both ways ie indie can be fallback if 11+ failed or appeal fails - was just hoping grammar is the fallback for some now that is not needed, leaving spaces open. 2nd round of allocations is so far off leaving me with too much time to wonder...

For 'non-status' reasons we turned down a Judd offer last year ,(score 420), in favour of an Indie, so yes, it does happen...good luck

Don't know where AGS is, but i do k now several boys in the last few years have turned down ou local grammar, Tiffin, in favour of Indies - not because of any snobbishness on the parents' part ( oth those that I know) but because they preferred a diffrent school ( various others) for their own child and his interests and aptitudes

It doesn't help you Cats, but we have turned down a place at a Grammar in favour of an indie. Part of the reason was, shockingly, that we would be slightly better off

The bursary we received pays for things like uniform and coach travel, that we would have had to pay for ourselves if DD went to the Grammar. I know that we were incredibly lucky to be given such a generous bursary, but I guess I'm trying to reassure you that yes, people do turn down grammar places, for many different reasons.

thnks Nathair, I had heard of families turning down grammars in favour of indies for various reasons - good luck to all those in such a great position. Am hoping this year some do so to free up grammar places - all my fingers and toes crossed for AGS in particular
