Logistics - Need help

Post by Snoopysbestfriennd »

Ok, Have son going to Alti boys and daughter going to Sale Grammar school. as we are out of area, I need some help from you in the know..... is there a school bus going from Sale to Alty? daughter start time is sooner than sons? or can you make suggestions!!!

We are heading potentially over warburton Bridge, but could come M6, M56 and off at Junction 7 to Alty 1st

Any help as usual would be much appreciated :)

Hi SBF

Hope the kids appreciate all the running about you are doing!! :D :D

Drop one of them off and I am pretty sure that the Metro would work running between these schools. Its about ten mins walk from Alty tram stop to school and for Sale I am not sure the stops in Sale are Dane Road Sale and Brooklands, but I think that one of them is fairly near the school.

I should know because I used to live in Sale, but I am sure that someone will be along shortly with more info. Buses are I think plentiful but anywhere near schools in the morning is a drag in the school run, the tram whips along quite quickly.

Thanks TM

But which would be safer? boy going from Brooklands to Alty or girl going from Alty to Brooklands?? as I dont know either area and kids have not experienced metro B4 would obviously need to have a few tries!!!

Advice and opinion much appreciated thansk SBF :D

Either will be fine I think. On a school work morning the tram stations are very busy bet there will be lots of kids doing similar. Both areas are what I would call very safe. On busy roads etc.

As you say a dry run would be the answer, though to do it in the hols not particularly indicative as much less people about.

There will be lots of boys up and dowm to Alty from Tram/train.

I do know of a few out of area who go to Sale as well, so suspect similar but not so many.

I'm no Marco Polo, but if your daughter's start is sooner then you may be better going M6>>M56>>M60 (towards Trafford Centre), and come off at jctn for A6144 (I could find out which number it is), and Sale Grammar is literally 2 mins drive from there. Brooklands tram stop is less than 5 mins walk from Sale Grammar. After 10 mins max. on tram your DS will then have to walk from Alty station to the school (15 to 20 mins) - but then, hey, so did I!!

Well there you go then columbus yourself!!!

That sounds about right. the walk from Alty Tram stop isn't bad, and as I said lots of boys will be on the same route.

The only thing is M56 traffic into Manchester in the morning is not great. I did the Manchester-Warrington thing the opposite way for a couple of years and was always glad that I wasn't going the other way.

What about the back roads to Alty from Warrington (which I have done a couple of times) and then pick up the tram at Alty to Brooklands?

Depends I suppose where you work SBF , did I recall you went past Alty, where to from then?

Hi AGSB old boy and TM

I work over at Manchester Business Park which is by terminal 3 at the airport and have flexi working - so really I'm the least of the probs, BUT I am totally Sat Nav Mum who doesn't know the area well at all. So I need to invertigate the route you have given me and try the metro

Thanks for your help :D

Hi SBF,

You could drop them off at the bus stop on Ringway lane for Alty Boys the bus for both Loreto and the Altygirls take that route for the stockport / Bramhall buses - The other option is seeing if the Train station at the Aiport links to Brookland for Sale Grammar as only 100yds away from the station.

Station at Ringway is to Manchester Piccadilly. Rather than going via motorway, cut through Lymn, drop son off in Altrincham, and daughter takes tram/train. You can then go via Hale Road to business park.

Also look at the bus option for emergencies and afternoons. The No 5 and 37 goes between Altrincham and Warrington.
