Hi, if I'm seeing it correctly I believe it's as follows:
35(/7), 5, 30 (/5), 6, 24(/3), 8, 16(/1), 16

So each number is divided by 2 less each time & the answer follows.
Hope this makes sense, I'm hopeless at explaining

thank you

I just couldn't see a pattern - but you explained it beautifully.

But I have never seen one this complex before (but then I haven't done any of the papers yet) - are 10 and 11 year olds really expected to work this out?

In our experience it got much easier once you get used to the patterns that are used, for example the one you just asked will show up in another set of questions or book, the numbers will of course be different but the theory exactly the same. If you keep using tests & books, the patterns should become much clearer.......hopefully :?
Best of luck!!

DC had no problems with it all - it is the mum that is the dumbo!

(I try the questions before hand so that I can go through them with him - maybe it should be the other way around.)

Don't worry they do seem to get easier with practice - DS after practice seemed to be able to see the answer before I had understood the question
