Admission to Grammar Schools with SEN

Post by Razbod »

Hi, my child is working towards the 11+ test in 2010 and he is SEN.

Will the fact that my child is registered as a SEN pupil make any difference to the admissions policy?

Special arrangements will have to be made at the test and the testing centre will be made aware further down the line but is there anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks in anticipation.

SEN covers quite a wide spectrum of conditions.

The only statemented pupil I have tutored for the exam had Asperger's syndrome and dyslexia. He did not get extra time for the KE free grammar schools despite applying for it. He did, however, for the KES one.

He and some other children I know have been put into a smaller test environment due to various conditions.

Personally I would phone/email the foundation office directly and enquire about precedent for a child with your child's needs. That way, you will not be left speculating for months.

Thank you for your response. My Son is partially sighted.

I have contacted the LEA and I am awaiting their response. I am sure that all of his requirements in the exam will be met.
