Short course GCSE subject as one of A2 Level Choices

Just wondered if anyone knows if a short course subject taken at GCSE can be an A2 choice or do A2 choices have to one of your full GCSE subjects.

Do you mean AS rather than A2?
As to whether you need a full GCSE to take an AS in a subject I think it would depend on the subject as there are soem where you don't need to have done the GCSE at all. Sometimes other related subjects can make a difference.

my son is doing AS in psychology (and going on to A2 next year) he didn;t have a GCSE in that.

Thank you all. Sorry I did mean AS. Grey matter taking hold!!! My daughter is taking the short RE for GCSE and would like to take it with Biology, Chemistry and Maths for AS. It sounds like she should be okay if Yoyo's DS was able to take psychology AS from scratch.

I think there will be 2 factors:
whether the school/college will allow it (they all seem to have different policies)
whether your daughter feels happy coping with the content of the course

I'm guessing the answer to the second point will be 'yes'! but if you check the exam board web site you can check exactly what is involved.

my son is also taking philosophy as AS and A2, he did RE GCSE. I agree it would be best to talk to the school or college

I think some people do history AS without having done the GCSE at all, similarly RE can be done after short course
