Mock Entrance Exams

Post by Alphamum »

Hi, I wonder if there is such thing as Mock Entrance Exam for Year 6 entrance. DS is sitting for Year 6 entrance and I am worried about his time management plus mentality approach in a real exam situation. I wonder should I try him for 11+ Mock entrance just to give him a "feel" of a real exam atmosphere. Can anyone advise me please. Thanks!

Hi Alpha

I know Sutton GS held their mock exam last week; don't know of any others I'm afraid. Does your DS have a tutor? I ask because I know some of them, including the one I used last year, try and recreate an exam environment from about Oct/Nov onwards.

Hope this helps. :D

They hold several mock exams over the summer. It takes place at the grammar school, but is actually run by the PTA

Reproduces exam conditions. The children are tested in maths, VR and NVR

Thanks for replies. I meant the Common Entrance Exam for Year 6 (indie schools) - Mock Entrance. I will, however, speak to his tutor. He did mention before that he will practise him with a real exam scenario with real timing soon. DS is one who gets distracted over a fly in the room, someone walking by etc., I am worried how he can focus when he is in exam hall. But thanks for replies. :)

Alphamum,

I dont know where you are based but I would thoroughly recommend the sutton mocks, we were the other side of London but it was one of most fruitful train journeys we ever made. My daughter sat nine entrance exams, six of which were indies, not including all the music scholarships and because of the sutton mock the first real one she sat was like her second one as she had already experienced real exam conditions. In my area very few indie exams are as hard to get top marks in as the state selectives. In my school nobody has ever failed to get into the very highly regarded indie in the next town, but many go there because they failed to get into the selectives. A tutor can try and create mock exam conditions but the sutton mocks were really no different at all from the real thing. My younger dd will sit next month and we would do it more than once if we were allowed.
