School Bans Girls Wearing Skirts!!!

Post by Snowdrops »

I find this quite unbelievable, on Radio 2 just now was a 'news' item telling us that one of my local secondary schools (St Aidans in Harrogate) has banned girls between 11 and 15 from wearing skirts. School uniform now insists that all girls wear long trousers. The basis for this is the girls wear them too short and too tight!

Now, whilst I'm the first to admit girls can wear them too short and too tight, I think it's a pretty poor showing by the school, have they never heard of regulation lengths - and then enforcing them? At Ripon grammar where my dd attends, they have regulation lengths and girls do push it, I can tell you! but even those that do 'push it' are well within the realms of decency.

I just cannot believe such a prestigious school (it's an outstanding school) have gone to such draconian measures. It's not April Fool's Day today is it????

Crazy! If a school cannot enforce its own school uniform policy what hope is there for its other policies? Girls' school trousers rarely create a smart impression. I wouldn't be keen on sending my DD to a school which didn't allow skirts.

At our local comprehensive all the girls wear black trousers (through choice I believe). They wear them ridiculously low on the hips showing off 'tramp stamps' and G-strings!

Couldn't agree with you more, FT.
Aren't they curing the symptom and not the problem - and have they simply swapped short, tight skirts for low-slung trousers?! :?

Exactly!! But according to one report the rules will be: no low slung trousers, denim, bare midriffs etc, etc, etc. But how will they be able to enforce it if they cannot enforce the length of the skirt?

'Tis crazy I tell you  But at least they can be held up as an example for the others schools to threaten their pupils - either you drop the length of your skirt or you'll all wear trousers, mwaah hahahahaaaaa

Personally I think they've brought themselves nothing but riducule with this, which is a great shame, it's one of the best schools around here - people even 'find' God to get into this school and they fight tooth and nail for places!

Lower back tattoos. I'm hoping that Freya means temporary tat's as it is illegal to tattoo anyone under 18.

 I would have thought that anyone turning up to school with this visible would be sent home.
Reading this thread makes me realise that our local schools obviously enforce their uniform policy well. :o

Ripon Grammar School and Ripon College sit opposite each other on the same road.

Whenever I drive my dd to school you can see the pupils walking up the road to school. I can tell without exception which girls goes to which school from behind (and it's nothing to do with the uniform - they both wear navy blue) from the skirt length. It's nothing to do with the pupils who attend, and all to do with discipline.
