TWGGS Distance Cut Off

Post by hamster »

Does anyone know the distance cut off which was applied this year at TWGGS?

I have heard a rumour that it has come down to 1.6 miles this year meaning that many girls in the south of the town did not get a place this year when they would normally via waiting list.

I heard of a few children not getting in who live in Bidborough whereas usually they do get in from there :? :?
Wanted to go to the open morning in a few weeks but it clashes with school event that cant be missed, will have to wait till Sep but am sure a visit will feel more pressured after the exam has taken place.

Dear Hamster

It did feel small this year which added to the stress, children living on the same road received different school allocations. However, the DCs we knew had successful appeals :D with one being quite a way out.

I know someone in Delves Avenue didn't get a place at TWGGS this year despite passing 11+ and got offered Skinners Academy (i.e. TWHS) instead, but I don't know whether she later got in on appeal...

Hope that helps!

Gosh TW Mum, Delves Avenue is really close to the town centre, even more so then the roads around Forest and Frant Roads!

We have a place thankfully - I was just trying to find out because next year's people keep asking me. I will tell them to phone the school.

It seems really strange that, governors' places (14 I believe) and siblings aside, places have been allocated to people living quite far away, such as Sevenoaks when girls living in the town of TW haven't and when Tonbridge schools are closer to them and in the case of Weald, give priority to Sevenoaks residents over TW ones. I don't really understand how that can happen based on the oversubscription criteria.

I thought governors places were awarded on score, so a girl from Sevenoaks scoring higher than a girl closer would get the place.

Yes I appreciate that which is why I said governors' places aside.

The governors' places were all handed out on first allocatiob. But Sevenoaks children still got in on appeal when presumably no governors' places were left. I don't understand why this is. I am just interested to know.
