Hi all,
I've just been informed that the pass score has been increased this year - does anybody know if that's the case.
thanks

http://www.buckscc.gov.uk/assets/conten ... s_2011.pdf19. HOW MANY CHILDREN QUALIFY?
For 2010 entry, the minimum qualifying VRTS was 121. This is expected to stay the same
for 2011. Approximately 30% of all children tested score 121 or more. At the end of the
process after the selection appeals we expect approximately 34% of the group to be
qualified for grammar school.

Hi Kitty
Another one for the "Myths & Legends" Sticky!
The pass mark has been 121 for years now. Theoretically it can change, but it never has done.

Re: 2010 scoring
I was told that the cohort this year is higher due to Millenium babies and as such the % pass mark would/could be higher.
What do you think Sally-Anne - Any truth in this one ?

Re: 2010 scoring
Hi duffymoon
As of January this year the total number of children enrolled in Bucks state schools was as follows:
Year 7 - 5579
Year 6 - 5555
Year 5 - 5378
Year 4 - 5376
The cohort is therefore smaller than last year. In addition there are private schools (with the same finite capacity each year) and OoC pupils, the numbers of which are also pretty stable each year.
The only foreseeable "blip" in the figures is the current Year 1, where the numbers on roll in January were 5797, which compares almost exactly with the last boom year, the current Year 11. The pass mark that year remained at 121.
Hope that helps.

Re: 2010 scoring
Interesting point about Year 1. Our primary hasn't had to field any oversubscription appeals for as long as I can remember, but there were three for Y1 this year!

Re: 2010 scoring
Interesting - as I currently have one in Y5 and Y1 - does anyone have the split of numbers between boys and girls for the different years - my Y5DD is very keen on a girls school, so I am interested to know the balance. Both my girls are currently in classes which have over twice as many boys as girls!
Thanks
Thanks

Re: 2010 scoring
Hi Booklady
There are no published figures on boys vs. girls. but I think that you should assume the split to be 51/49 boys vs. girls, as it is roughly across the UK population.

So the cohort is actually smaller than the previous couple of years !
Its amazing how these rumours go about.
